Adrien and I were so excited to get to see the baby for the first time at our 12 week appointment! When she put the wand to my stomach we were both enraptured with the video monitor. The baby popped up there immediately. It looked like a real little baby! We saw it in profile and it was more amazing than I thought it would be. The photos the technician printed out just don't do justice to what you see on the screen. I don't know what I was expecting? A baby that is not yet fully formed (it was an early ultrasound)? A fairly still image? But the baby was all over the place. The technician was try to take measurements so we got to see the baby for a long time and they were not really cooperating with the technician. The baby was literally jumping up and down with their little legs and sliding back down the uterine wall. A couple times the baby turned onto their side with their back to us, adorable. And all the little hands and feet were easy to spot.
The technician even gave up a view from the top of he baby's head and we could see the two hemispheres of the brain! Whaaaa?! I didn't know you could do that! We also saw from the bottom and the little feet. And of course we heard the fast little heartbeat too.The technician kept shaking my tummy with the wand to get the baby to change positions and we were laughing so hard it was hard to "stay still and relax your stomach muscles" as the technician asked. The next ultrasound is at 20 weeks and I was told we can ask the technician to flash us a 3D image. Yay! Wish we had had the foresight to video tape the ultrasound monitor with one of our phones but as Adrien said afterwards, "I didn't want to miss any of it."
